Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The foundation was established by Bill Gates (the founder of Microsoft), Melinda (his wife), and William H. Gates Sr. (his father) in 1994. The foundation claims to be the largest charitable endowment in the world and supports development and health programs in more than 100 countries worldwide.

 

Open Society Foundation

Founded by an investor and philanthropist, George Soros in 1984. Open Society Foundations were initially designed as institutions which could help countries transition from communism to democracy. The focus of Open Society is on the establishments of democracy through programs that advance good governance, justice, education, public health, and independent media in more than 70 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

 

Ford Foundation

Found by co founder of Ford Motor ,Henry Ford. It has become one of the largest philanthropies in the world. Grants by Ford Foundation are given to projects and individuals in more than 50 countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

 

William and Flora Hewlett Foundation

William and Flora Hewlett Foundation focus their fundings on global development programs on governance, education, improved policy analysis and  better access to agricultural markets for farmers in developing countries.

 

Children’s Investment Fund Foundation

The foundation was established by Chris Hohn, hedge fund manager and his wife Jamie. The focusing areas of Children’s Investment Fund Foundation are child survival, hunger, alleviation, and education achievements. In Africa, the programs are focused on medical care, educational support for children with HIV, reducing maternal and child mortality, and post-conflict reintegration programs for children. In Asia, the programs aims to improve access to education and boost treatment for HIV/AIDS.

 

United Nations Foundation

Ted Turner gifted the United Nations with $1 billion for disbursement within 10 years. The pledge created the United Nations Foundation which encourages wealthy countries, individuals, and groups to contribute to support the development and peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations. United Nations gives its entire revenue to global development with a focus on child health, climate change, peace and security, and poverty eradication.

 

John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation

Known as one of the largest private foundations in the United States founded by John MacArthur’s estate. Its international focuses are on human rights and international justice, peace and security, conservation and sustainable development, higher education in Africa and Russia, migration and human mobility, and population and reproductive health.

 

Conrad N. Hilton Foundation

Conrad N. Hilton Hotel created a foundation in his own name in 1944 as a philanthropic trust. Six years later it became a nonprofit corporation. The foundation’s international funding focuses on water and sanitation, care for children affected by HIV/AIDS, and early childhood development.

 

Rockefeller Foundation

Rockefeller Foundation was established by the six-generation Rockefeller family. The organisation’s focus areas are international in scope: basic survival safeguards, global health, climate and environment, urbanisation, and social and economic security.

 

Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation

The foundation was established by Intel co founder Gordon Earle Moore and his wife Betty, the foundation’s international grants are concentrated on environmental conservation and scientific research.
