Last Sunday Optimy had the opportunity to be invited to speak at Fosdem, one of the best events for software developers in Europe, held in Brussels at the campus of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Every year, thousands of developers of free and open source software from all over the world gather at this event to get in touch with other developers and projects and be informed about the latest developments within the industry.
Discussing and sharing knowledge with developers of many different backgrounds during the weekend was very instructive for the members of our development team. We came back with a lot of ideas about various IT subjects such as development, workflows, databases, systems, and much more.
As we are working on our software while focusing on the maintainability, sustainability and scalability of the application, we had some experienced feedback to share. We, therefore, prepared a presentation about the best practices we put in place in order to continuously increase the quality of the code we produce.
We also explained the techniques that we put in place for live migrations. These are done in order to easily rid ourselves of old parts of the application and smoothly replace them with new services.
We furthermore gathered very interesting feedback from the audience, strengthening our belief that we are headed in the right direction.
So, while this full weekend at Fosdem was exhausting, the experience was very enlightening and positive. We warmly thank all the volunteers organising this huge and crazy event. See you next year guys!
